My story...
Feast your eyes on a wonderful, floral decorated, quarter bound, pocket edition of Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë.
I was published in in the late 1940s by Pocket Editions Incorporated as part of their Collector's Edition series.
Practicalities:
-I measure H 17cm by W 11.5cm
-I weigh 307g.
Condition Summary:
-I am in good condition on my outside with noticeable wear good and marking to my boards.
-I am in a very good condition on my inside with reading pages mostly in a very respectable condition.
For specific condition points see below.
NOTE: the blue specks on my page edges are part of the book's design not age/fox marks.
Why buy me?
…because I am an original; utterly and classically gorgeous in my navy, quarter bound covers which are delicately embossed down the faux leather trim with a wave of gold gilt. Aren't I quintessentially quirky in my adorable, dusty blue and dusty pink floral boards? The floral print design is sheer antique delightfulness and continues onto my endpapers at each end of me.
Before we move on don't forget to take in the beaming, gold gilt decorated, framed, and textured ridges on my spine - the tiny waves are repeated along with delicate swirls of foliage.
My page edges are also speckled in delicate blue (not age marks)…like dust against the floral hues.
Inside, my reading pages although age toned are mostly in a very respectable condition.
I am also a lovely size and feel good to hold with a font size that is comfortable to read.
The font used on my title page is wonderful - really out of its time! It gives me a boldness that is out of step with my pretty exterior. So do each of my chapter headings - numbers sandwiched between a set of a lighter and darker under and over lining which repeats the underlining above and beneath the ridges on my spine.
All the above, with the fact that my binding is strong, makes me quite a find! You won't find many of me around in 2022.
As I am around 70 years old I will have some signs of age and use:
Hardcover: spine ends rolled on the bottom end and mildly worn both ends; there is also wear across the quarter bound section of faux leather on the top rear edge where there is a slight knock; the board covers are age toned, more so around the hardcover facing edges and worn on the extreme edges of the boards; all the book corners are rolled and quite worn on their tips. The floral print is rubbed in places but this adds to its vintage charm methinks!
Page edges: all the edges have blue speckles as part of the book design; all the edges are age toned in colour, more so on the top edge. All edges have some mild, rub-like surface marks. There is a teeny tiny dark dot on the long side edge.
Endpapers: just slightly age toned in colour around their edges.
Pages: very good generally - they are age toned in colour. My seller found a creased page corner (photo 9) and a couple of pages with brown age marks on them - see photo 10 for an example.
A note from my seller:
A beauteous edition - a cocktail of classic and quirky with the most gorgeous dusty floral design on its boards and endpapers!
It is aged on its exterior but due the pattern this does not seem to detract from its appeal as it might do in a more plainly bound book.
