Vintage condition: good vintage condition; under magnifier wear to the foil on the backs of rhinestones visible, especially on the small round ones; under magnifier micro scratches in the gilt visible; a small spot of slight wear to the gilt on back side of tag

A choker made of gilded base metal with an Art Deco design. The necklace consists of three chain sections with alternating rectangular and hexagonal links. Between the middle and the outer sections a cluster of 6 claw set smaller brilliant cut crystals, all interconnected, connects the three chain sections. The middle chain section is embellished with a garland of six bow elements and a navette shaped clear rhinestone in each bow. These bows consist of small, square shaped and aligned links, all prong set with a brilliant cut clear rhinestone, interconnected by small, flexible base metal strips. In between the four middle bows bigger round brilliant cut crystals connect the bows. Also seven middle sized round crystals embellish each hexagonal link. Also on the outer chain sections two middle sized brilliant cut rhinestones in a hexagonal link on each side. One end of the necklace has a small solid metal ball and a rectangular tag next to it attached. This tag is marked “Volupté”. The other end of the necklace has a gilded metal hook clasp.
The American Volupté company manufactured cigarette cases and powder compacts (1926-end of Fifties) and during the Fifties also costume jewelry, but in small quantities. Most of their jewelry shows oriental, Islamic or Art Deco inspired motifs, like this necklace. Measurements: largest width 15 mms, length 41 cms (including hook and end finding) and adjustable because of hook clasp, but please check measurements. Good vintage condition, all original stones are present and more or less sparkling, but under magnifier nearly all crystals show age related wear (tiny black spots on the foil on the back sides). Gilt is still in great condition, except for a tiny wear spot on the tag, probably due to frequent contact with the ball end finding. Any spots on the photos are reflections of camera or background. Glamorous handmade necklace from the Fifties, great for parties and weddings and an opportunity for collectors!
